Tasic conducted an investigation on the basis of findings by investigators of the Hague war crimes tribunal who conducted the exhumation at Ovcara.
At the site of the crime the investigators discovered 540 projectiles, 174 parts of projectiles and four pieces of shrapnel, which were not related to the cause of death, Tasic said, adding that the investigators also discovered medically treated injuries in 50 cases and medical material in 45 cases.
"Whether the victims were killed at close range cannot be said with certainty because of the passage of time between the event and the exhumation," Tasic said, adding that it had been established beyond doubt that 32 persons had been shot at the back of the head.
Apart from Tasic, the court also heard the expert opinions of Zagreb forensic experts Milovan Kubat and Davor Strinovic, the latter having attended the exhumation of the Ovcara victims and the subsequent forensics procedure in Zagreb in 1996. Strinovic said that 192 victims had been identified, 93 with the classic identification method and 99 with DNA analysis.
The trial will resume on Thursday.
