Ashdown met the Foreign Minister of Serbia and Montenegro, Vuk Draskovic, Serbian President Boris Tadic, Serbian Premier Vojislav Kostunica and the head of the Serbian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Pavle.
Ashdown said he was grateful to the authorities in Belgrade because they had finally started providing assistance in handing over war crimes indictees, and added that he was confident that Serbia and Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina would soon be moving together, on two parallel tracks, towards membership of the European Union and NATO.
The Serbian government said in a press release after the meeting that Kostunica had said that cooperation with the Hague tribunal would continue on the model of two-way cooperation, while Ashdown said he supported the continuation of cooperation with the tribunal between the authorities of Serbia and the Bosnian Serb entity, Republika Srpska.
