Zagreb, after having been repaired in thefoundry of the Academy of Visual Arts.
KUMROVEC, April 11 (Hina) - The bronze statue of Josip Broz Tito
that was severely damaged in an explosion on the night of December 27 last
year, was replaced on Monday in front of Tito's birth house in Kumrovec,
north-west of Zagreb, after having been repaired in the foundry of the Academy
of Visual Arts. The head of the Culture Ministry's Conservation
Department, Tomislav Petrinec, said that the authorities were considering
introducing video surveillance to protect the monument. Apart from guards, the
monument will also be safeguarded by police officers, he added.
The monument to Tito was made by famous Croatian sculptor Antun
Augustincic in 1947 and it was placed in front of Tito's birth house in 1948.
It is part of the protected area of Kumrovec and is considered one of
Augustincic's best sculptures.
