ZAGREB, March 17 (Hina) - The nonparliamentary party Independence
and Progress on Thursday organised a campaign called "We Need Europe and not
the European Union" in Zagreb's main square, where its members distributed
home-made cheese and cream, olive branches and party brochures.
Nenad Ivankovic, the leader of this party whose acronym is SIN, said they chose
17 March as the day for the campaign not to gloat over the government's
failure to open entry talks with the European Union, but to express their
views.
Ivankovic described the European Union as an interest bloc, and said
Croatia should not aspire to EU membership at all costs.
The party's brochure reads that this party was against Croatia's plans
to join the EU and NATO, as this was the only way "to save the country from
plunder, sale and world terrorism".
