Kosor also spoke about the great problem of a high unemployment rate among women, their low salaries and insufficient participation in politics.
On the other hand, in the Croatian government, women account for 35 percent of ministers and they are at the helm of important ministries such as the ministries of foreign affairs, justice, construction, and family and war veterans' affairs.
Last year, Croatia adopted a national strategy for the prevention of domestic violence, providing for the speedy settlement of all domestic violence cases at courts, the establishment of courts for family-related issues and free psychological and social assistance, she added.
She said that a telephone directory containing phone numbers and addresses of relevant institutions that can be contacted by victims of domestic violence was published today.
The Croatian ombudswoman for children, Ljubica Matijevic Vrsaljko, said that there was an increasing number of domestic violence victims among children, adding that 8,000 children, who were either abused or who witnessed incidents of domestic violence, were registered in 2004.
