ZAGREB, Dec 5 (Hina) - The Varazdin County prefect and former construction minister, Radimir Cacic, was in conflict of interest because his companies were doing business with his ministry, while Prime Minister Ivo Sanader was not in conflict of interest during his trip this summer to Verona, where he attended an opera festival, the Commission for the Prevention of Conflict of Interest decided on Tuesday.

Commission head Josip Leko informed the press of the decision under which Cacic's ministry signed 12 agreements worth 132 million kuna with companies linked with Cacic.

Although Cacic had transferred to a trustee the management rights in companies from the Coning Group which he co-owns, the trustee failed to inform the Commission for the Prevention of Conflict of Interest of the fact that the minister was linked with the said companies.

This is a violation of the law on the prevention of conflict of interest and Cacic must publish an announcement at his own expense in the official gazette of the Varazdin County.

Commenting on Sanader's trip to Verona, Leko said the government forwarded to the Commission a file stating that Sanader travelled to Verona officially, at the invitation of the organiser of the festival.

The PM traveled to Verona with an official airplane, but given that he was accompanied by his wife, Sanader paid the hotel bill from his own pocket.

Leko also said that the government had not forwarded the receipts from the PM's trip to Verona, which the Commission requested back in September.
