The protocol defines rules of conduct from police stations and municipal prosecutors' offices, through police departments and county prosecutors' offices to the Police Directorate and the Office of the Chief State Prosecutor and is aimed at increasing efficiency and operability in discovering and preventing criminal acts and in collecting evidence.
Chief State Prosecutor Mladen Bajic said that the signing of the protocol
institutionalised the overall cooperation between the two institutions that was already good.
Police Director Marijan Benko said that the protocol did not contain any new elements, but was a written document of which all police stations and departments would be notified.
Answering a reporter's question about changes to the Penal Code, Bajic said that this was a long-term process that was expected to result in a more expeditious criminal procedure.
