Croatia has tirelessly worked to prove its readiness and wish to be admitted to NATO. The admission of Croatia to NATO no later than 2008, together with Macedonia and Albania, will be an expression of the international support, said Radanovich, a Republican Congressman, in a press release last night.
Croatia has proved its willingness and ability to take over responsibilities stemming from NATO membership, Peter Visclocky, a Democrat Congressman, added.
The 51-member Congressional Croatian Caucus, established in early 2005, actively backs Croatia's aspirations to join the alliance in 2008.
President Bush said on Tuesday that in 2008 NATO would extend membership invitations to countries that would be ready for it and that the US supported the ambitions of the three Adriatic Charter member states -- Albania, Croatia and Macedonia -- to join the military alliance.
Here in Riga we will make it clear to them that NATO's door remains open and I believe that at our next summit in 2008 we will extend invitations to those countries that will be ready for membership, Bush said in the Latvian capital which was hosting the alliance's summit.
