Mesic went on to say that he could not see how Party of Rights (HSP) leader Anto Djapic, who has urged early elections, could profit from them.
Answering reporters' questions at a ceremony marking the 200th anniversary of the Zagreb Jewish Municipality, Mesic said that the Jasenovac Museum was not like other museums or Holocaust museums located outside the places where crimes were committed.
"It is a museum, but also a site of execution," Mesic said, adding that he would be able to comment on the new museum layout after he saw it.
Asked about the recent teachers' strike, Mesic said that strike was a legitimate means of expressing one's opinion and demands and that it was permitted by the law. "In this case, it helped intensify efforts to find a joint solution and I believe that it was good," Mesic said.
Asked about his being nominated for the title Statesman of the Year, which is awarded by the Brussels-based weekly "European Voice" for what the paper said was his readiness to stand up to public opinion and hand runaway General Ante Gotovina over to international justice, Mesic said he believed that this explanation was crucial, but that he had always tried to make decisions that would be right also in 10 and 100 years' time.
"I have made decisions that some did not like at the time I made them, but all my decisions have proven correct," Mesic said.
