ZAGREB/NAGASAKI, Nov 19 (Hina) - A memorial service was celebrated
in Urakami cathedral in Nagasaki on Saturday for the people killed in the
eastern Croatian town of Vukovar in the 1990s war, the Croatian Embassy in
Japan said on Sunday. In attendance, among the faithful, were
Croatian Ambassador Drago Stambuk and parliamentary deputies.
Stambuk described the defence of Vukovar and likened the suffering of
its residents to the tragedies of Nagasaki and Hiroshima.
The ambassador said Nagasaki was an ideal place for remembering
Vukovar's victims because it had experienced huge pain and become a symbol of
human suffering.
