"Croatian Television (HTV) as a public institution must not shape public opinion in a biased and unsuitable fashion," said the Sabor committee's chairman, Furio Radin, and a majority of members on the committee backed him.
Some MPs warned that the HRT failed to ensure that ethnic minorities be informed in their mother tongue, although the public broadcasting company is bound by law to do so.
Semso Tankovic, a parliamentary deputy representing several minorities, commended the HTV for the coverage of services during the Muslim holiday of Bayram.
However, he pointed out that some media used inappropriate terms from the Middle Ages when commenting on relations between Christianity and Islam.
"Fortunately, Croatian citizens hold Muslims in higher esteem than some media," Tankovic said, adding that Islamophobia is a form of anti-Semitism, given that the Arabs are also a Semitic people.
Vesna Skulic criticised the public television for neglecting events involving disabled sportsmen.
