Speaking to reporters in the southern coastal city of Split at the end of his visit to Croatia, Papadopoulos said that Croatia and Cyprus had very good political relations, but that they should increase economic cooperation.
"If it meets all the conditions of the European Union, Croatia might join it in two to three years, and it took Cyprus six years to accomplish that," the Cypriot president said.
Responding to a reporter's question, Papadopoulos said that Cyprus supported Croatia's admission to the EU independently of Turkey, stressing that each country had its own path.
He said that Cyprus supported Turkey's EU entry provided that it withdrew from Cyprus, noting that it made no sense for one EU member to send its troops to another EU country.
