BELGRADE, Nov 2 (Hina) - Emir Sisic, a Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) major who had been sentenced in Italy to 15 years in prison for shooting down a European Community helicopter in Croatia in January 1992, was transferred to Serbia on Thursday to serve the rest of his sentence, Serbian Justice Minister Zoran Stojkovic said.

Five members of the European Community Monitoring Mission, including four Italians and a Frenchman, were killed in the attack.

Pilot Sisic had been sentenced to life imprisonment, but an appellate court in Rome had reduced it to a 15-year prison term. He was transferred to the Sremska Mitrovica penitentiary.

His lawyer Milan Panjevic told reporters that he was going to ask the relevant court in the city of Novi Sad to pardon him by further reducing his sentence.

According to the lawyer, the reasons for alleviating the sentence are the fact that his client is in poor health and that he has already served one third of his sentence.
