ZAGREB, Oct 23 (Hina) - The Office of the Chief Public Prosecutor on Monday requested the parliament to strip independent MP Branimir Glavas of immunity for being connected with the "Sellotape case", the latest investigation into war crimes committed against civilians in Osijek in the early 1990s.

The spokeswoman for the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, Martina Mihordin, told Hina that there were indications that Glavas was directly linked with six people arrested last week on suspicion of killing civilians on the River Drava banks in Osijek in late 1991 and early 1992.

"However, at this moment we cannot say what exactly Glavas is charged with," Mihordin said.

The parliament's Credentials and Privileges Commission scheduled a session for 2 pm today to discuss the Glavas case.

The media, which call the latest investigation the "Sellotape case", have quoted anonymous sources as saying that Glavas is the main suspect in the war-time killings of civilians in Osijek. According to media reports, Glavas did not directly command members of the Independent Uskok Unit, who allegedly committed the crimes, but he did decide who would be killed and when.

The Zagreb County Court is already conducting an investigation into Glavas and Krunoslav Fehir, who went public with war crimes allegations.

The prosecution charges Glavas with personally ordering the ill-treatment and killing of Serb civilians Cedomir Vuckovic and Djordje Petkovic and the torture of three other Serb civilians.

Fehir, who admitted to the crimes and accused Glavas of ordering them, is suspected of ill-treating and shooting at an imprisoned civilian.
