ZAGREB, Oct 18 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic on Wednesday received a delegation of the southern municipality of Kistanje.

The delegation including the municipal mayor and other representatives of the local authorities informed the president of progress achieved in the relations between local Serbs and Croats. They also expressed satisfaction with the process of the reconstruction of houses for returnees and with the construction of a water supplies network.

The delegation, however, pointed to the problems of depopulation and economic degradation. They called on President Mesic to help efforts aimed at constructing the utilities and finding investors who will build plants in this municipality 20 kilometres southwest of Knin.

The head of state voiced satisfaction with the level of coexistence among the locals and with the pace of reconstruction of this formerly-war stricken village.

The municipality of Kistanje has a population of some 3,000 inhabitants. According to some figures, about 57 percent are ethnic Serbs, and the rest are Croats, mainly ethnic Croats who settled nearby villages after they fled the Janjevo enclave in Kosovo.
