ZAGREB, Sept 29 (Hina) - The Croatian parliament on Friday adopted an amendment by the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) on the establishment of a university in the northern Adriatic city of Pula.

Pula University, named after bishop Juraj Dobrila, consists of a faculty of philosophy, a faculty of economics and tourism, a teacher training college, a university library, and a teacher training centre.

The parliament amended the Waste Management Act, adjusting it to European Union directives, and the Waste Management Strategy.

It amended the Road Transport Act moving the deadline for the 'rejuvenation' of truck and bus fleets from 2007 to 2012, when all trucks and buses should not be older than 18 years, while buses used for transport of children should not be older than 10 years.

The Lastovo archipelago was declared a nature park, the 11th such park in the country.

Most deputies rejected a request by the Social Democrats that the government be called to account for the financial situation in Pozega-Slavonia County.

The parliament granted its consent to change a decision on the pace of privatisation of the oil company INA by which the government postponed the sale of seven percent of INA shares to former and current company employees.

The decision initially stated that former and current employees would be able to buy the shares 30 days after the initial public bid for INA shares, while its amended version prolongs the deadline to six months at the latest.

The Sabor ratified several international agreements and conventions, including an agreement with the EU on the exchange of confidential information, one with Germany on avoiding the payment of double taxes on income and property, an agreement with the Swedish government on cooperation in fighting crime, and the International Agreement on Civil Responsibility for damage caused by oil contamination of sea waters.

Deputies also supported an agreement changing the Framework Agreement on the Promotion of Small and Medium Enterprises in Croatia, which the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the Council of Europe Development Bank are expected to finance with a 20 million euro loan.

The parliament sent government-sponsored bills on leasing and transfer of powers into second reading, and rejected a bill proposed by the Peasant Party on the stimulation of domestic production for tourism purposes.

The parliament will continue its 22nd sitting next week.
