The establishment of single tax numbers is a criterion which Croatia is expected to meet before entering the European Union. This move is also a part of efforts to counter corruption in the country, Finance Minister Ivan Suker told the government.
Individual tax numbers will contain 12 digits plus a country designation (12 digits plus another two digits).
The single tax number must be unique for any entity and must not reveal personal data. According to plans, individuals will gain their own tax numbers at birth, while legal entities will be granted numbers upon their establishment.
The Sanader cabinet also set up a task force to begin implementing the Regulatory Guillotine.
The Government also decided to establish the polytechnics in the eastern town of Slavonski Brod and adopted a degree regulating the rental of state-owned forest areas.
