LJUBLJANA, Sept 13 (Hina) - The foreign affairs committee of the Slovene parliament on Wednesday strongly condemned an incident near Hotiza, which was caused by Croatian police, committee chairman Jozef Jerovsek said after a session of the committee which lasted several hours.

"Croatia has acted unilaterally and violated agreements, and abused the positive spirit of agreements between the two prime ministers on the reconstruction of the dyke on the River Mura," Jerovsek said in a comment on the detention of a group of Slovene reporters by Croatian police after they crossed the border into Croatia without the necessary passes. The reporters were released.

Jerovsek, a member of the Slovene Democratic Party (SDS) of Prime Minister Janez Jansa, said that the committee had called for the unity and patriotic behaviour of Slovene political parties, and urged the government to consistently apply "European and wider international standards" to agreements with Croatia.

The committee agreed that dykes on the River Mura must be repaired in cooperation with Croatian companies, but that the cadastral border can be treated as a state border only on the basis of an agreement on the border, which has not been signed yet, Jerovsek said.

He added that in the delimitation of the border with Croatia one should start from the principles of the Badinter commission and the situation that existed on June 25, 1991.
