Mesic to join int'l delegation on visit to Auschwitz on Tuesday

ZAGREB, Jan 28 (Hina) - Former Croatian President Stjepan Mesic will join a delegation of more than 200 prominent political, cultural and religious figures from 40 countries on a visit to the site of the Auschwitz World War II concentration camp in Poland on 1 February, the Office of the former Croatian president said in a statement.

Mesic was invited to join the delegation by UNESCO and Project Aladdin. The purpose of the visit is to highlight the need for the further financing and maintenance of memorial sites such as Auschwitz.

Project Aladdin is a cultural initiative launched in March 2009 under the patronage of UNESCO with the aim of countering Holocaust denial and all forms of racism and intolerance, while promoting intercultural dialogue, particularly among Muslims and Jews.
