According to him, Dubrovnik had one percent more tourist arrivals in this year's first six months in relation to the same period last year. However, the number of overnight stays in the said period was six percent lower than in 2005, he said.
Skvrce believes that the trend in July and August show that the final results would match last year's level, the daily wrote.
"The attempts of an orchestrated destruction of Dubrovnik's image, that are very dangerous and ill-advised, are initiated at a local level, after which they were transferred to the state level. I hope these people will assume responsibility for the irreversible destruction of Dubrovnik's image," Skvrce said.
He also commented on media headlines that Dubrovnik had less foreign tourist, such as those from France. "The fact is that there are less foreign tourist, but comparing the number of foreign tourists this year to three years ago, it rose by 30 percent. They say that Dubrovnik is too expensive, but it clearly isn't too expensive for Croatian tourist whose number this year rose by five percent, Skrvce said.
