Greek authorities, however, have not yet notified Croatia of the exact date and time of extradition, although it is expected to happen very soon, Justice Ministry spokeswoman Vesna Dovranic, Interior Ministry deputy spokeswoman Emina Lisic and Petrac's lawyer Marijan Pedisic told Hina.
According to Pedisic, Petrac has asked the Greek authorities to extradite him as soon as possible so he can apply for a retrial for the abduction of retired General Vladimir Zagorac's teenage son in February 2004. For this reason he has forgone his right to all legal remedies in Greece and has withdrawn his application for asylum.
Last year the Zagreb County Court sentenced Petrac to six years in prison for masterminding the abduction. Since at the time he was on the run and the sentence was handed down in his absence, he can apply to the Supreme Court for a retrial.
Petrac was arrested in Greece last year and put in prison in Igoumenica. Earlier this week he was transferred to extradition detention in Athens, which indicates that the extradition process is in its final stage.
On July 27, Greek Justice Minister Anastasis Papaligouras signed a decision granting Croatia's request for extradition, the Croatian Ministry of Justice said, adding that it received the decision through the Croatian Embassy in Athens.
The Croatian Ministry of the Interior will be responsible for Petrac's transfer to Croatia.
