According to provisional data, the export of goods still rises at a faster rate than the rise in the import. However, the difference in the rates is diminishing.
Expressed in the U.S. dollar, the national export rose by 12.8 percent in the first six months of this year, and expressed in the kuna, it rose by 16 percent as against the comparable period in 2005.
Expressed in the U.S. dollar, the import of goods increased by 12.2 percent and by 15.2 percent when expressed in the kuna.
Thus, in the first six months of 2006, Croatia exported goods worth 28.5 billion kuna or 4.79 billion U.S. dollars (or 3.9 billion euros).
The import of goods totalled 61.09 billion kuna or 10.3 billion dollars, or 8.3 billion euros.
As a results, the foreign trade deficit was 32.5 billion kuna or 5.49 billion U.S. dollars.
