Agriculture Minister Petar Cobankovic said that he believed that there would be no need for the intervention buying of wheat surpluses this autumn as wheat yields were no longer a political issue and wheat prices were no longer determined by political decisions but by the market.
The Agriculture Ministry has ensured a mere 1.5 million kuna for possible intervention buying in September, as its position is that there will be no huge surpluses of wheat.
Currently the market price of wheat is going between 0.82 and 0.85 kuna per kilogram.
Also on Thursday, the government greenlighted the continuation of state support for the construction of so-called ULO refrigerated warehouses, allocating five million kuna for this purpose.
For the last three years, the government has supported the construction of eight refrigerated warehouses with ULO (Ultra-Low-Oxygen storage) with subsidies totalling 16.1 million kuna.
The government also decided to divide Croatian Railways (HZ) into four companies: one in charge of maintenance and construction of rail infrastructure, one in charge of passenger transport, a cargo transport company, and a rail haulage company. The government also decided on the founding of an umbrella railway company. The stock capital of those companies and activities within their remit were also defined.
Workers' employment contracts are to be transferred to the newly-established companies, Transport Minister Bozidar Kalmeta said.
