ZAGREB, July 3 (Hina) - Croatia's Foreign Affairs and European
Integration Ministry has forwarded a note to Slovenia's Embassy in Zagreb
dismissing allegations in a protest note which the Slovene Foreign Ministry
handed over to the Croatian Embassy in Ljubljana over the construction of a
bridge across the Mura River near the town of Sveti Martin na Muri and the road
connecting the bridge in concern with the Croatian-Slovene border crossing '
Sveti Martin na Muri - Hotiza. The Croatian Ministry said on Monday
afternoon it was prompted to issue the note after Slovenia earlier in the day
announced that it had sent the protest note over the construction of the bridge
and the adjacent road connecting the bridge with the said border crossing.
The Croatian Ministry recalls that the bridge has been built across the
Mura at the place where both banks of the river are unquestionably on
territory of the Republic of Croatia.
In addition, all construction works have been carried out in compliance
with agreements Zagreb already forged with the Slovene authorities within the
implementation of the bilateral agreement on cross-border traffic and
cooperation.
Thus, the Croatian Ministry absolutely rejects Ljubljana's allegations
that the construction of the said bridge and the adjacent road towards the
joint border-crossing has violated provisions of any bilateral agreements
between the two neighbours.
