ZAGREB, June 30 (Hina) - A delegation of the Irish parliament's joint committee on agriculture and food in Zagreb on Friday held talks with members of the Croatian parliament's committee on agriculture and forestry about strengthening agricultural trade and developing rural areas in the two countries.

Trade in agriculture and food products in the first three months of this year was low, said Bozidar Pankretic, the head of the Croatian agriculture committee.

In this year's first three Croatia exported to Ireland several pets, two or three kittens and one puppy, together worth 700 dollars. Import in the same period was a bit higher, Pankretic said expressing hope he and the head of the Irish Committee on Agriculture and Food, Johnny Brady, would encourage the two countries' businessmen not to stop with pets, but to intensify trade.

Pankretic and Brady talked about a number of issues.

We talked about development plans and how to adjust them to the changes in the common EU policy as well as how to use EU fonds in the best possible way so as to promote the development of rural areas, Brady said.
