Answering a question from the press, Mesic said he welcomed the decision by Pliva's Supervisory Board if it felt this was the best solution for Pliva and Croatia.
Sanader said Pliva was a big Croatian brand that must retain its name.
The second and more important demand is that manufacturing remain in Croatia and that jobs be saved, he said, adding that the government would soon meet with Barr's representatives. We will ask for additional investment it this is possible, he added.
If the company's European base will be in Zagreb, as announced by Pliva's Management and Supervisory Board, that would mean additional investing in manufacturing in Croatia, possibly new jobs, brand preservation and making Pliva the strongest regional player, perhaps one of the strongest in Europe, said the prime minister.
Mesic and Sanader spoke to the press after the opening of an international symposium on Nikola Tesla.
