"When I say that, I have in mind various advantages which Montenegro already has, such as a multiethnic society, possibilities for a fast and dynamic economic development, and the fact that as a small system we pose no threat to the EU," Krivokapic said.
He added that Montenegro was already more advanced than future EU members Bulgaria and Romania in many aspects, including per capita income and the rule of law.
Krivokapic said that the invitation by Monaco's Parliament Speaker Stephane Valeri for Montenegro to join the community of eight small European countries was an "invitation to join eight exceptionally rich countries".
"Those are small countries and each of them is smaller than Montenegro but each has a per capita income of more than USD10,000."
The community consists of Iceland, Luxembourg, Liechtenstein, Andorra, Cyprus, Malta, San Marino and Monaco.
"The invitation was sent because they believe that we can join the circle of small and successful countries. I believe that with their knowledge and position that being small does not mean being unsuccessful, Montenegro can be a new surprise in Europe in five years".
