ZAGREB, June 8 (Hina) - The parliamentary club of national minorities' deputies will not vote for amendments to the Criminal Code unless the government adopts the Human Rights Committee amendment under which hate crime would be an aggravating circumstance in all criminal acts, club chairman Furio Radin told the press on Thursday.

Radin voiced concern about what he said were increasingly frequent cases of intolerance and ethnically motivated incidents in Croatia against Serbs and recently against Jews.

"In light of that, it is of outstanding importance to endorse that amendment," he said, adding that no one from the government had contacted the club in connection with it.

Milorad Pupovac said he was especially concerned about the tolerance of hate speech. "It is commonplace to hate Serbs (and) say something ugly about Jews, Muslims or persons of a different political orientation."

"We have that in our parliament, despite an agreement with its Presidency that one should react to such occurrences," Pupovac said, underlining that the national minorities' club of deputies requested that the ruling Croatian Democratic Union and the opposition endorse the aforementioned amendment, on which parliament is expected to vote tomorrow.

Semso Tankovic criticised a request by the Association of Disabled Homeland War Veterans (HVIDR-a) to ban a concert by Bosnian singer Halid Beslic in Kasteli, saying competent institutions should react to "such threatening messages".
