ZAGREB, June 7 (Hina) - The Croatian Ministry of Justice has not yet received from Dutch authorities an official notification of the arrest of Munib Suljic, one of the persons convicted in the Pakracka Poljana case, but has requested the relevant documents from the Zagreb County Court in order to prepare an extradition request, ministry spokeswoman Vesna Dovranic told Hina on Wednesday.

No details of Suljic's arrest or his health could be obtained from the ministries of justice and the interior and the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. They declined to comment on media reports that Suljic, seriously ill with diabetes, had turned himself in to Hague tribunal prosecutors and that he was ready to cooperate with Croatian authorities in a war crimes investigation allegedly being conducted against Tomislav Mercep, former commander of a police reservist unit, of which Suljic was a member.

The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office confirmed that Chief Public Prosecutor Mladen Bajic had requested permission from the Dutch authorities to interview Suljic.

The Zagreb County Court had sentenced Suljic to 10 years in prison for the murder of a man near the village of Janja Lipa in 1991, and the Supreme Court later increased the sentence by two years. The sentence became effective on May 10 this year.

Suljic disappeared before the Zagreb court handed down its sentence and an international arrest warrant was issued. He was arrested on June 1 in The Hague and has been detained in a Dutch prison hospital since.
