Seks visited the Estonian capital to attend a two-day European conference of parliament presidents from Council of Europe member countries which began yesterday.
On the fringes of the conference, Seks met his Bulgarian and Greek counterparts, Georgi Pirinski and Anna Benaki respectively, to discuss an initiative to organise a meeting of parliament presidents from Austria, the current EU chair, and its successors Finland and Germany, which would examine the possibilities of further parliamentary cooperation between the countries of the region and the EU.
Seks also held his first meeting with the new Albanian parliament speaker, Jozefina Topalli. They agreed further cooperation on the road to NATO membership.
Seks and the president of the Bosnian parliament's House of Representatives, Martin Raguz, discussed the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, upcoming elections and the constitutional reform in the country.
Yesterday, Seks met his Swedish counterpart Bjorn von Sydow. They agreed further cooperation and an exchange of visits by parliamentary representatives, which they said was significant because Sweden had been critical of Croatia's drawing closer to the EU.
The conference ended with a conclusion that over the next two years it is necessary to find new ways of strengthening the role of national parliaments in the solving of foreign policy issues.
CoE Parliamentary Assembly President Rene van der Linden told the press the conference kickstarted a process which would define new frameworks for parliamentary diplomacy and strengthen it in international affairs and the solving of world crises.
