The event will focus on the research of potential for the improvement of cultural cooperation in Southeast Europe in view of promoting the common European heritage, with special emphasis on the consolidation of knowledge about existing activities and initiatives in view of achieving stronger regional cooperation and synergy.
The Opatija Summit 2006 will be organised by the Office of the Croatian President, in cooperation with the Culture Ministry, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, the Council of Europe and UNESCO.
The summit will be opened by Croatia's President Stjepan Mesic and Prime Minister Ivo Sanader. In attendance will be the presidents of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Greece, Macedonia, Romania, Slovenia, Serbia, and Turkey, the UNESCO director general, the CoE secretary-general, and a representative of the European Commission.
