This is the first officially formed coalition of Bosnian Croat parties ahead of presidential and parliamentary elections scheduled for early October.
The coalition is comprised of the Croatian Democratic Union 1990 (HDZ 1990), the Croatian Peasant Party of Bosnia and Herzegovina (HSS BiH), the Croatian Christian Democratic Union of BH (HKDU BiH), the Croatian Democratic Union of BH (HDU BiH), and the Croatian Democratic Christians of BH (HKDU BiH).
It was agreed that the coalition will be represented by Bozo Ljubic, who recently, due to disagreements with the policy of Dragan Covic, the president of the Croatian Democratic Union of Bosnia and Herzegovina (HDZ BiH), recently left the latter party and founded HDZ 1990 with those who shared his views.
Ljubic said the purpose of the coalition was to incite Bosnian Croats to participate in the coming elections and offer the Bosnian Croat electorate an alternative to that of the HDZ BiH.
Asked by the press if a coalition was possible between his and Covic's party, Ljubic said that was impossible also because Covic recently signed an agreement on constitutional changes, turned down by parliament, which Ljubic felt was harmful for Croats in Bosnia.
