On Wednesday, Croatian officials signed contracts on a USD 5.5 million deed of donation from the Global Environment Facility (GEF), to be used for this purpose. Of this sum, two million dollars will be used for the development of Croatia's legislation in this area, while the remaining 3.5 million will be used for projects such as the construction of wind farms, solar electric power plants, small hydroelectric power plants, etc.
The Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and Development is in charge of implementing the projects and selecting consultants for institutions taking part in the development of Croatia's energy market.
Ensuring that 5.7 percent of power is produced from renewable energy sources requires the installment of 300 megawatt equipment connected with renewable energy sources. Currently, Croatia has a 5-megawatt network connected with renewable energy sources, Croatian Economy Minister Branko Vukelic said.
