ZAGREB, May 10 (Hina) - European People's Party (EPP) leader
Hans-Gert Poettering has denied telling Reuters news agency in an interview
that Croatia's EU membership prospects are uncertain because EU citizens are
frightened of further enlargement, Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader said on
Wednesday. "Poettering denied the news yesterday. He is coming to
Split tomorrow and he will confirm it," Sanader said during Question Time in
Parliament.
Reuters published an interview with the head of the EPP, the strongest
political group in the European Parliament, on Tuesday.
"The people are frightened, frightened that Europe becomes too big,
that everything overstretches itself. Romania and Bulgaria will be okay, but
Turkey or Croatia or the other Balkan states remain a doubt," Poettering was
quoted as saying.
