RIJEKA, May 2 (Hina) - The Pula-based Uljanik shipyard on Tuesday took over all claims which the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the German development bank DEG have in the Viktor Lenac shipyard in Rijeka.

Uljanik also signed a contract committing itself to taking over claims which Reiffeisen Bank has in the Rijeka shipyard which opened bankruptcy procedure a few years ago.

The moves by Uljanik open a possibility for wrapping up the bankruptcy procedure.

After this, the Croatian Government will be the only creditor, i.e., the owner of 'Viktor Lenac', via the Finance Ministry, the Croatian Bank for the Development and Reconstruction (HBOR) and the Uljanik shipyard.

The value of the agreement which representatives of Uljanik and the IFC and DEG signed in Rijeka on Tuesday, was labelled as a business secret.

According to unofficial sources, the claims of the IFC and DEG in the ailing shipyard were sold at the price of 3.7 million US dollars, while Raiffeisen Bank's claims were sold for one million kuna.

In this way, Uljanik holds 51 percent of claims in 'Viktor Lenac', while the Croatian states holds the rest of 49 percent, a union leader in the Rijeka shipyard told a news conference.

The problem of claims which the Croatia Osiguranje insurance company and the Nova Banka have in the shipyard is still to be solved, the official receiver, Ombretta Belic-Ilijasic said.

The union leader Damir Bacinovic expressed hope that today's event would pave the way for a new stage in the development of 'Viktor Lenac', adding that since the opening of the bankruptcy procedure, the trade union had been in favour of returning the shipyard back into a status of a state-owned company.
