New car sales in Croatia in 2010 go down by 14 pct

ZAGREB, Jan 5 (Hina) - A total of 3,205 brand new personal cars were sold in Croatia throughout December, which was by 195 vehicles or 5.7 percent less than in November 2010 and by 1.4 percent more than in December 2009, the Promocija Plus agency reported on Wednesday.

According tho the agency's figures, based on records kept by the Interior Ministry about new car licences, a total of 38,587 new cars were sold in Croatia in 2010, or down by 14.1 percent (6,331 vehicles) from 2009.

In December, the top performer according to the sale volume was Volkswagen with 392 cars sold.

Skoda followed with sold 341 cars, and Ford came third with 289 cars sold in December.

The top ranking for the entire 2010 differs with Opel being on the top with 4,697 cars sold in Croatia throughout last year. This German automobile brand makes up 12.17 percent in the Craotian car sales market.

Volkswagen is the second with sold 4,249 cars, and a market share of 11.01 percent.

Renault ranks third with sold 3,328 cars and a market share of 8.62 percent.

Chevrolet (3,182), Peugeot (2.736), Skoda (2,314), Hyundai (2,220), Ford (2,150), Citroen (1,909) and Kia (1,244) occupy the remaining spots in the Top 10.
