Mesic commented on announcements of higher prices for gas and all oil products except Super 95 at the request of the press after attending the 40th anniversary of Zagreb's Health Polytechnic.
Asked if it would be easier to solve Croatia's problem with fuel if a different agreement had been reached on the Druzba Adria oil transport pipeline, Mesic said that the Druzba Adria issue and everything else concerning energy must be settled at the state level so as to find the best solutions for the public.
The president said experts should state their position on such matters, including on "whether it is good that we exploit our oil pipeline and connect it with the European system which is called Druzba Adria". His position is that "Croatia should retain the quantity of oil we, namely our refineries, need and the rest should proceed further to Europe".
"We thus exclude tankers from the Adriatic, along which about 300 tankers sail now, but nobody complains about it although they go to Trieste," said Mesic.
