Parliament Speaker Vladimir Seks said that on 17 November 2005 parliament declared 2006 the year of Nikola Tersla, adding that all events marking the Tesla year would be held under the auspices of parliament.
He said the peak of the celebration would be the marking of Tesla's birthday on 10 July in his birth house in Smiljan, central Croatia, where a Tesla Memorial Centre would be set up.
The celebration in Smiljan will be attended by top state officials and those present would be addressed by the head of state, the prime minister and the parliament speaker, Seks said.
A total of 8.8 million kuna will be allocated for the activities concerning the marking of Tesla's year of which 870,000 kuna is still to be raised so the committee decided to ask the government to donate those funds.
This year the world is marking 150th anniversary of Tesla birth.
