BRUSSELS, April 5 (Hina) - The European Union has extended for
three months the ban on imports of poultry and poultry products from the areas
of Croatia that have been affected by bird flu, and from Romania and Turkey,
the European Commission said in a statement on Wednesday evening.
The ban was to expire on 30 April and was now extended until 31 July.
The import ban has been extended because of new cases of highly
pathogenic avian influenza discovered in the three countries, the statement
said.
The last bird flu case in Croatia was registered on the southern
Adriatic island of Ciovo at the end of February.
