ZAGREB, April 4 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic and Prime Minister Ivo Sanader on Tuesday held talks on a series of their incoming activities on the foreign affairs front as well as on international legal suits in which Croatia may be involved, including Croatian clients' lawsuit against Ljubljanska Banka, arbitration for the demarcation of the borderline at sea with Slovenia, and Croatia's genocide lawsuit against Serbia-Montenegro before the International Court of Justice in The Hague.

After the talks, Mesic told reporters that there were a few legal proceedings before international legal institutions in which Croatia is involved.

In attendance at the Mesic-Sanader meeting were Croatian Parliament Speaker Vladimir Seks and a legal expert, Ivan Simonovic.

Mesic declined to speak about legal proceedings in question, while PM Sanader added that they had discussed the preparations for the proceedings.

Asked by reporters whether they had discussed the problem of Ljubljanska Banka's debt to clients in Croatia, Sanader said that the Croatian heads of state and government shared the same position on the issue.

This is a debt which must be paid back, it refers to private and legal relations between the Ljubljanska Banka and its clients and this cannot be addressed within negotiations on succession to the former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, Sanader said.

He added that they had discussed various implications, models and preparations in relation to the problem of the sea border with Slovenia.

We have proposed to Slovenia that we go to an international legal institution and ask it to help us solve the problem. We are still waiting for Slovenia to respond, the Croatian PM said.

The talks also revolved around Croatia's genocide lawsuit against Serbia-Montenegro, which Zagreb lodged before the ICJ in The Hague in 1999 and amended in 2001.

Belgrade lodged an appeal questioning the jurisdiction of the ICJ.

Several years before Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina filed a similar lawsuit against Belgrade before the ICJ. Serbia-Montenegro also appealed against the jurisdiction of that international court for the case, but the appeal was rejected, and the main hearing is under way.
