ZAGREB/THE HAGUE, March 28 (Hina) - British General Michael Rose has said before the International Court of Justice, as a defence witness for Serbia and Montenegro, that Bosnian Serb authorities and army did not depend on the Belgrade regime during the 1990s war and that Bosnia's genocide lawsuit is not in the interest of peace as it will punish future generations of Bosnian Serbs.

In the formal and technical sense, the Republika Srpska Army (VRS) was not under the command of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY), although it did receive support from Belgrade, Rose said in a March 24 testimony which the Hague-based court issued on Tuesday.

The press was not allowed to report on the content of the testimonies witnesses and experts of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia and Montenegro gave over the past six days.

Generally speaking, one can say that the VRS was under the political leadership of Pale, Rose said, adding that it had been very difficult to establish Radovan Karadzic and Ratko Mladic's connection with the then FRY.

General Rose, the UNPROFOR commander in Bosnia in 1994-95, said that all three sides in the country had committed crimes and that Bosniaks (Bosnian Muslims) had led the way in breaching ceasefires.

He also confirmed that the majority of the crimes had been committed by the VRS under Mladic's command.
