Croatian MP, Swiss ambassador hold talks

Autor: mses
ZAGREB, Nov 17 (Hina) - Croatian parliamentary foreign affairs committee chairman Frano Matusic on Wednesday received Swiss Ambassador Denis Knobel in his inaugural visit, and thanked him for Switzerland's support to Croatia in the country's post-war reconstruction as well as in its European Union membership bid, the Croatian parliament (Sabor) said in a statement.

Matusic reiterated expectations that during the Hungarian presidency over the EU in the first half of 2011, Croatia would complete the membership talks and sign the treaty of accession.

We hope that Croatia will become a full EU member in 2012, Matusic was quoted in the statement as saying.

The Swiss diplomat pointed to the Sabor's impressive results in the last three years.

Knobel said that his country would like to give its contribution to peace and stabilisation in southeastern Europe.

He went on to say that Swiss-Croatian bilateral relations and Croatia's development were important for Switzerland as the two countries shared many similarities.

The Swiss ambassador praised Croatia for its considerable progress in the last 12 years and expressed unconditional support for Croatia's plans to become the 28th member of the European Union.

He spoke about the important role of the Croatian minority in Switzerland that he said was giving an active contribution to the building of the Swiss society and to the development of Swiss-Croatian relations.

Matusic called on Swiss business people to invest in infrastructure projects in Croatia.
