At a news conference held after talks with top Bosnian officials, Barroso said his arrival in the region should be interpreted as yet another confirmation that the European Commission wanted to see all western Balkan countries in the EU.
Commenting on relations EU-Bosnia relations, the EC president said that in the best case scenario, Bosnia could end its negotiations on the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) by the end of this year.
Barroso, however, said Bosnia must continue to implement reforms.
The Chairman of the Bosnian Council of Ministers, Adnan Terzic, expressed conviction the SAA would be signed by the year's end.
By visiting Sarajevo, Barroso ended his tour of western Balkan countries during which he also visited Zagreb, Belgrade, Pristina, Skopje and Tirana.
