"Croatia was notified that Italy was considering the establishment of an ecological zone and that the Italian Parliament was discussing the issue," officials at the Ministry said.
"The Ministry does not have the text of the law on the ecological zone and expects to be formally notified. Croatia believes that relations in the Adriatic need to be regulated on the basis of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. It also believes that all Adriatic countries would benefit from improving the protection of the Adriatic against environmental risks and creating a framework for a more efficient cooperation in that field," officials at the Croatian ministry said.
According to information released on the Italian Senate's web site, the law on the establishment of an ecological zone and its external borders was adopted on January 31, following its adoption by the House of Representatives.
The law was adopted at the proposal of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and on the basis of the 1982 UN Convention.
