Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel told a news conference on Thursday that the task of the Slovene soldiers was completely separated from combat operations in that country.
Defence Minister Karl Erjavec said he did not expect the Slovene public to respond negatively to the decision.
Erjavec said he did not expect this move to entail additional security risks.
Slovene army officers should be sent to Iraq in the next two months, and their deployment does not require the approval of the parliament.
