ZAGREB, Aug 2 (Hina) - The Croatian government on Thursday accepted to co-finance an annual rental fee of a sports hall in the coastal city of Split.

Yesterday, the city council of this second biggest Croatian city okayed the construction of the Lora sports centre, which will be one of venues for the 2009 World Handball Championship. The construction of this EUR 147-million multipurpose hall should soon start.

The annual rental fee is to be 4.9 million euros and the government will pay a half of this amount in the next 29 years. The city of Split which will pay the second half of that amount, will take ownership of the facilities after those 29 years.

The Ivo Sanader cabinet also endorsed an agreement on co-financing a programme for a regional water supply system in Dalmatia. The project, worth 1.3 billion kuna, is designed to provide the Dalmatian hinterland with water supply.

The government also defined draft amendments to the pre-school education legislation enabling foreigners to be employed in this sector under the same condition as Croatian nationals.

The government formulated amendments to the child allowance law which would enable foreigners staying in Croatia to qualify for this benefit upon the country's entry into the European Union.
