BELGRADE, July 26 (Hina) - The Serbian government's minister for
Kosovo, Slobodan Samardzic, said on Thursday the Contact Group must not take
over the jurisdiction of the Security Council, but only provide a service to
the UN in the current stage of the settlement of the Kosovo status issue. The Contact Group may hold consultations, provide suggestions and
guidelines for new negotiations, but the Security Council is the
decision-making body, said Samardzic.
He dismissed and condemned a statement by the outgoing US Ambassador to
Belgrade, Michael Polt, who said that a solution for Kosovo could be found
even outside the Security Council, saying this statement contributed to the
Serb-Albanian conflict.
Samardzic added that Polt was making frequent public statements which
were contrary to Serbia's positions and encroached upon Serbia's home affairs
and sovereignty.
