After the welcome ceremony which Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov gave for Mesic, the two presidents headed towards the Monument of the Unknown Hero so that Mesic could lay a wreath and pay tribute to the soldiers who died for Bulgaria.
After the wreath laying ceremony, Mesic and Parvanov headed towards the Bulgarian President's Office for talks. The two countries' delegations will later the join the talks, after which Mesic and Parvanov are scheduled to address the press.
This afternoon, Mesic is scheduled to attend lunch given by Bulgarian Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev, after which the Croatian delegation will attend the ceremony of unveiling a monument to Croatian historian Franjo Racki.
This evening, Mesic is expected to visit the Croatian Embassy in Sofia. He will wrap up the first day of his official return visit to Bulgaria at a dinner given by Bulgarian President Parvanov.
This is Mesic's second official visit to Bulgaria. The first visit took place in July 2003, while Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov visited Croatia in 2002 and 2004.
