Paphos is a coastal town in the southwest of Cyprus and the mythical birthplace of Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love.
Mesic and Chrysostomos II briefly discussed the problems of divided Cyprus and the ways inter-religious dialogue could help solve this issue.
On Thursday Mesic held talks with his Cypriot counterpart Tassos Papadopoulos, Parliament Speaker Demetris Christofias and Nicosia Mayor Eleni Mavrou. He also gave a talk at the European Institute in Nicosia.
The Croatian head of state on Thursday also visited the UN buffer zone in the Cypriot capital which divides the city into the Greek and Turkish regions, thus making it the last divided capital in Europe. The so-called Green Line is the line of demarcation that has been dividing the Cypriot capital into the southern Greek Cypriot region and the northern Turkish Cypriot region since 1974.
During talks with his Cypriot hosts, Mesic stressed that the two countries had excellent political relations but that they needed to boost economic cooperation.
