AMMAN, May 20 (Hina) - Croatia wishes to help where it can and this time we are helping the establishment of civil authority in Iraq and the training of Iraqi troops, Croatian President Stjepan Mesic said on Sunday visiting the Jordan International Police Training Centre (JIPTC).

Two Croatian police officers are currently participating in the training of Iraqi troops in the JIPTC, which is located in the desert, 60 km from Amman.

"Croatia always wants to help, where it can, and this time we are helping here with the training of Iraqi police who have to perform their duty in accordance with the law, which we advocate too," said Mesic.

The first president to visit JIPTC, he saw the premises as well as demonstration exercises and talked with Croatian police officers Marin Mikulec and Zoran Mamuzic, who on this occasion were decorated by the King of Jordan for their work in the training of Iraqi troops. Mikulec and Mamuzic are the third Croatian duo in Jordan training Iraqi police since June 2005.

Croatia will send other police officers if necessary because "it is one way of demonstrating Croatian strength and skill," said Mesic.

By visiting the JIPTC, Mesic ended his trip to Jordan which saw him attend the World Economic Forum for the Middle East and a meeting of the G11 group, whose closing statement envisaged the engagement of Croatian companies in major infrastructure projects in Jordan.

"We now compete with world construction companies and we can compete in other production and service industries as well," said Mesic.
